This is the official website of the 47 Royal Marine Commando Association - a specialised branch of the Royal Marines Association. The branch exists to honour the memory of the men of the Commando, especially those who died on active service, from its formation on 1 August 1943 until disbandment on 31 January 1946.
Families and friends of our veterans, along with serving and retired Royal Marines, regularly travel to Port-en-Bessin, Fécamp, Walcheren and Kapelsche veer to commemorate the distinguished battlefield actions of all those who served with or were attached to 47 Royal Marine Commando.
To join our branch all that its required, for those of you who are not already a member, is that you join the Royal Marines Association. Joining is simple and will not cost you anything - there is no joining fee or annual subscription! The link below will take you to the appropriate website:

We look forward to welcoming you as a member of our friendly and family orientated 47 Royal Marine Commando Association!
The 80th Anniversary of the Battle of Kapelsche Veer was commemorated on 31st January 2025. The event was attended by ambassadors and representatives from the United Kingdom, Canada, Poland, Norway and the Netherlands.
Bob and Shirley Perry along with Kelly Heathfield represented the Association and laid wreaths on behalf of the British Embassy and to the memory of our own fallen.
Further details of the commemoration event will be included in the next edition of Despatch.
A large gathering of the membership descended on London (21-24 March) to reacquaint themselves with the attractions of the capital city, engage in numerous social activities (hic!) and, of course, thoroughly enjoy the Mountbatten Festival of Music featuring the Massed Bands of His Majesty’s Royal Marines performing in the iconic Royal Albert Hall.
It was also an opportunity to host Stéphane and Nathalie Pitel, owners of the ‘Bar de la Criée du 47éme’ to thank them for their sterling support to our veterans, families and friends over many years.
A great time was had by all!
During the 80th anniversary year of VE Day one of the highlights of the 2025 visit to Normandy was the replacement of the 47 Royal Marine Commando Standard that has served the Association so well during the past 23 years.
In a short but reverent ceremony in the Port-en-Bessin memorial garden the new Standard was paraded and dedicated for use by the Association by former Royal Marine and RMA Chaplain, the Reverend Justin Montague
The town of Fécamp was liberated by 47 RM Commando on 2nd September 1944. Since then the people of Fécamp have never forgotten the courage, determination and self sacrifice of their liberators. That bond of friendship and mutual respect, now extended to veterans’ families and friends, continues to the present day. (Photo credits: Guerin Francis)
The 47 RM Commando Association was well represented at Walcheren 1st-3rd November 2025 to commemorate the 81st anniversary of Operation Infatuate II - the amphibious assault at Westkapelle and subsequent bloody fighting in the dunes. Walcheren is a largely forgotten theatre of operations so it is important that 47 RM Commando Association continues to actively commemorate this Corps Memorable Date.
On 12th November 2025, 47 RM Commando Association was proud to be represented at the opening of the Dr John Forfar Clinical Study Room at the University of St Andrews. John qualified there as a doctor in 1941 prior to joining the 10th RM Battalion and later 47 RM Commando.
